    Description

Be a "SpaceWeather Chaser" (and terrestrial lightning-emissions, also) -- This is the very same popular
    WR-3
natural VLF radio receiver (hand-held) I previously sold via my website (web search for
    WR-3 ELF-VLF Receiver/and for the WR-3 Listening Guide
) but it comes without the BNC-base telescoping whip antenna, and as such I can offer my
    WR-3
for a lower price here on eBay. Due to a big price increase of some parts, I have had to, unfortunately, raise the price a bit over time, but I insist on keeping the WR-3 price reasonable so everyone is able to afford and delve into this way-cool aspect of sound and radio phenomena!
The WR-3 is a "wide-band" audio-band receiver designed to monitor naturally-occurring ELF-VLF radio signals between 300 Hz up to about 12 to 13 kHz only (audio-frequency whistlers, dawn-chorus, lightning sferics and 'tweeks,' and so forth, that are generated by lightning sources and space-weather events).  The WR-3 is also good for sleuthing out 50/60 Hz AC mains grid power problems and for examining power-line and grid harmonic-radiation (PLHR), also.
    I can ship your
    WR-3
within 1 to 10 days handling-time (so far it has been usually within 1-5 days maximum but occasionally I need a bit more time) rather than the required 4-plus weeks (was too-long!) turnaround time previously via my website (as I had to take time to acquire the Smiley Superstick II BNC-base-whip antennas/parts/etc., and that all added to the shipping time if ordered from my website.)
This listing is now available globally. Calculated shipping costs represent USPS Priority Mail for my faithful US customers and the eBay International Global Shipping system shipping to my faithful Canadian and International customers.
I have been selling this particular WR-3 version with the Hammond (1590B-BK) crinkle-black-painted cast-aluminum enclosure since 2007, and in an unpainted cast-aluminum enclosure since early 1992.
As such I'm happy to offer it NOW and Repeatedly on eBay as I construct and test them!
    The
    WR-3
requires at least a 1 to 2 meter long (39 inches) telescoping whip (36 to 66 inches) for excellent sensitivity) and quality 8 or 16-ohm headphones with a 3.5 mm / 1/8-inch mini-stereo plug (very common), and you're good to go! It will not work with a loop antenna because a loop is very low-impedance - it operates strictly and optimally with a 1-meter long or longer (40 inches-plus) telescoping whip or vertical wire antenna/aerial (use no coax or only a short < 1m length).  The 'WR-3 Listening Guide' is available online, also.  Please 'Net search for this document containing full-detailed instructions and information about natural ELF-VLF radio phenomena.
An excellent telescoping-whip antenna for the WR-3 is the Smiley Super-Stick II by Smiley Antenna, Inc. - the longest version is their antenna for the aircraft-band (118 to 132 MHz) that is 63 in. / 160 cm in length with a BNC base-connector, and the 2-meter version is excellent and only a tad shorter than the aircraft-band antenna. Either version are highly recommended.
(NOTE: An alternative mobile use is a TRAM big mag-mount with a 9 foot long "CB-whip (steel whip) screwed into the magnetic-mount base.  As such the coax must be shortened to 1-meter long and no more). Works fab too!
(I have been notified that Smiley does not always ship to all nations in Europe, most unfortunately - an alternative via eBay is available:  search for
Diamond RH205 VHF Telescoping HT Antenna) - either the US domestic version or the black-painted Japanese version works fab., also.
Also search for "Telescoping Antenna BNC base" and you will see eBay sellers whom ship globally.  Some are only ~95 cm (~37 inches) but that is long enough as a start/minimum-length (best if used on open, high-ground if shorter).
See the online 'WR-3 Listening Guide' for much more informations and specs.
COMES WITH AN ALKALINE 9V BATTERY INSTALLED.
