    ABOUT SHENANGO
Shenango pottery, or china, was made between 1902 and 1961 in New Castle, Pennsylvania. As the Shenango company experienced financial problems throughout its history, the china was produced   Pieces marked “Shenango China / New Castle PA” were likely produced between 1902 and 1948. IncaWare was a line with either the name over Shenango, or with an Indian logo, or both.  Pieces marked “Castleton China” signify china items produced between 1940 and 1968 by Shenango. The Shenango company also made china for the Theodore Haviland Co., marked “Theodore Haviland New York / Made in America,” from 1936 to 1958.  After 1950, pieces were marked  “Shenango China” with a date code with a letter and a number. The company emerged from the New Castle China Company, that became Shenango in 1901. By 1909, the company experienced financial difficulty, and James N. Smith, part owner of the Smith-Kirk-Hutton hardware store in New Castle, took control of the company.  He was a novice regarding pottery, but had the business know-how needed, and under his direction, the company established and flourished. James M. Smith has always been considered the founder of Shenango.
    NESTLE
Nestle was founded in 1866 as the Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Co merged with Henri Nestle’s food company. Their initial output was condensed milk and powdered milk formula for babies. But it wasn’t long before their chocolate products emerged as a   In 1920s, Nestles introduced their classic Hot Cocoa, wherein cold water is stirred into the powder, sugar added to taste, then boiling water or scalding hot milk are poured in and stirred.  in 1938, Nescafé is launched as a ‘powdered extract of pure coffee’ that retains coffee’s natural flavour, but can be prepared by simply adding hot water. The product is the brainchild of Max Morgenthaler, who begins work on it in 1929, when the Brazilian government asks Nestlé & Anglo-Swiss to find an outlet for its huge coffee surplus.  This created a huge foray into America, with Americans liking convenience.
----In 1930, a Massachusetts Inn owner named Ruth Wakefield was preparing her favorite "butter drop do" cookies for her guests only to find that she'd run out of powdered baking chocolate. She chopped up a Nestle chocolate bar instead, assuming the heat from the oven would cause the ingredients to blend together. The results were even better: the chocolate chip cookie. The cookies were a huge hit with her guests, and Ruth continued to serve them as part of the Toll House Inn's regular dessert menu.
----But it was in WWII that Nestle found its huge foothold in USA.  Fearing that the Axis powers could occupy Switzerland, Nestlé/Anglo-Swiss relocates some managers to a new office in Stamford CT in the US, which operates as the company’s second headquarters during the war.  1941-45 saw a pick up in sales as hostilities continue. After the US enters the war, Nestlé brands rapidly gain popularity among American service personnel.
----At the end of the war, Nescafé is also included in CARE aid supplies in Japan and Europe.  In 1948, US Nestlé launches a soluble tea, Nestea, which is manufactured using the same method as Nescafé, and can be served both hot or cold. Nesquik, which dissolves easily in cold milk, is also launched in the US and becomes a top seller. In 1955, Nestlé hired ventriloquist Jimmy Nelson to do its advertising on children's television programming. Nelson's dummy Danny O'Day would say that Quik "makes milk taste...like a mill-ion" (dollars). Danny and a dog named Farfel would finish the commercials by singing Nestlé's signature jingle:
    Danny: N-E-S-T-L-E-S,
    Nestlé's makes the very best...
    Farfel: Chocccccc-'late!
Farfel would finish with the sound of his jaw snapping shut.

Some General Info re: Silver charms and bracelets in our listings
--FYI: it is not unusual for sterling charms to be unmarked from this era: many charms came unmarked on display sales cards that had the maker and metal info; as well as jewelry items under a certain weight did not have to be hallmarked.
--FYI: Rhodium is in the Platinum family of metals.
It was often used in the 50s-70s to plate sterling silver to avoid tarnishing,
In the Rhodium plating process, 925 Sterling Silver is given a nickel underplate prior to Rhodium plating. The nickel is magnetic and causes the magnetic attraction.
--FYI: Sterling 925 or Euro Silver 800, 835, 900 - vintage European silver is highly collectible.

PLEASE NOTE ABOUT THE CLOTHING/WEARABLES WE LIST: Any clothing /shoes/accessories we list are helping us to clean out our own closets, to empty boxes of stored goods from a friend’s boutique that went out of business, and to find homes for garments from catalog photoshoots. We sell as-is with no returns. We are now retired and moving things forward before we ourselves “move forward!!!”
---For all clothing/wearables we sell - new and especially used - we check for holes, tears, wear, spots, or any other imperfections before we list.  Whether new or used, we have made every attempt to note any flaws in our listings, but may miss something due to aging eyes and/or sheer ignorance about a particular item.
---We ask you to understand that even if we missed something in the description, you are still getting a BARGAIN compared to buying retail, so YOU may need to have the item cleaned, shaped, restored, refreshed, get a button replaced, stitch where threads have come loose, whatever...
----Many are just simply wrinkled from storage... Many can be worn as they are, but would benefit from a pressing or cleaning at winner's discretion -- especially worn garments, or even if clothing in new "store" condition, with or without tags, or New Old Stock, because they were once hanging on racks or in store displays, handled by shoppers, dumped in carts, possibly dropped, certainly tried on, some taken home & then returned to store, -- and/or often have a dingy look from dust and light soiling from handling, or evidence of being in storage.
THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING, LOOKING, & IF YOU PURCHASE --- WEAR/USE IN GOOD HEALTH!!!
